This particular example was made in New England or perhaps New York sometime during the 19th century. Every element of the chair is entirely all original including the desirably old black painted finish that has developed craquelure through two centuries of natural oxidation. The seat of this chair is splint woven and has remained in great condition. 

We advise to anyone to treat this chair as a historical accent to an interior and not test the integrity of the seat by sitting on it.
