In Korean tradition, tigers are seen as protectors, believed to ward off evil spirits and misfortune, while magpies are thought to bring good news. During the Joseon Dynasty, it became customary to hang paintings of tigers on gates symbolizing protection for the home. At the same time, Koreans believed that the chirping of magpies heralded the arrival of welcome guests. In this era, tigers embodied the strength and authority of those in power, whereas magpies came to represent the voice of the people. With this symbolism in mind, BON’ee designed an artwork featuring a tiger and a magpie in conversation, symbolizing a hope for harmony between those in power and the public. This piece reflects a collective aspiration for personal happiness and a peaceful, unified future.Size : 27.5 x 19.6 inches (70 x 50 cm)
