A lovely antique carved oak letter rack of five-plank construction in the 17th century revival style popular during the later 19th century. English origin.
The shaped pediment is decorated with scrolls, flowers, swags, and guilloche. The sides are carved with flowers, vines, foliage, and swags, the right side bearing the words \"Anno\", and the left side bearing a date of \"1895\". The reticulated front is heavily carved with a swag and wreath flanked by cherubs and terms, terminating on a gadrooned-carved plinth base.
There is adequate space to accommodate several large envelopes.
The oak is richly patinated, with warm tones and visible grain. A charming and practical piece of domestic history, ideal for a hallway, study, or collector’s wall.
Provenance: England. 19th century.
