An elegant Brazilian modernist dining table attributed to Giuseppe Scapinelli, crafted in richly figured caviúna wood, Brazil, circa 1950s.
The design is defined by its refined silhouette and architectural balance, featuring a subtly tapered top that appears to float above a sculptural base of sharply angled legs. Each leg terminates in delicate brass-capped tips, a detail that adds both visual lightness and a discreet note of refinement while emphasizing the table’s vertical rhythm.
The top is constructed from solid caviúna with caviúna veneer, allowing the dramatic grain of the wood to flow uninterrupted across the surface. Carefully refinished, the table highlights the natural depth, warmth, and tonal variation characteristic of this prized Brazilian hardwood.
With its generous proportions and clean modernist lines, the table comfortably accommodates eight guests while maintaining a sense of visual lightness—an approach frequently seen in Brazilian furniture of the period where sculptural form and material richness were balanced with functional elegance.
The overall composition reflects the design language associated with Giuseppe Scapinelli, whose work helped define Brazilian modernism through a synthesis of refined craftsmanship, expressive wood grain, and dynamic structural forms.
