A beautifully detailed larger-sized Tauhou (Waxeye) necklace, featuring the much-loved little bird perched on a delicate Mānuka flower. The Tauhou is cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, then carefully etched and finished with a sterling silver chain and clasp.
The Waxeye — or Tauhou, meaning “stranger” or “new arrival” — first appeared in Aotearoa in the 1830s, having flown across from Australia. Despite arriving under its own wings, it has become one of New Zealand’s most adored garden birds, known for its curious nature, soft olive plumage, and signature silver eye ring.
This larger pendant allows even more detail to shine through, capturing the Tauhou’s round little form and gentle personality. Each piece is finished using an oxidisation technique that highlights the carved textures and brings the design beautifully to life.
Like all Tania Mallow jewellery, this necklace has a lovely, weighty feel and is crafted with comfort, durability and quality in mind.
Tania Mallow proudly supports BirdCare Aotearoa with monthly donations, helping care for New Zealand’s precious birdlife.
