Viana beads are traditional pieces of jewelry from the Minho region in northern Portugal and are a symbol of good luck in love.

The first bead was traditionally given by a godmother to her goddaughter at birth. It was threaded onto a cotton bracelet or necklace. Then, on their wedding day, they wore their necklace or bracelet of Viana beads as a symbol of happiness and good fortune.
